When The Jokes On You

It’s supper time, and I’m setting the table when Bella says to me, “How do mystery writers hold up their pants?”

I pause mid-way of setting down a plate and stare at her. She’s got one of those slanted grins on her face and her siblings are hoovering near the doorway.

“I don’t know,” I reply.

She begins to giggle, and from behind her siblings are covering their mouths to hide their laughter. She manages to blurt out, “with suspensers.”

Soon the entire dinning room is echoeing with the sounds of children’s laughter, and I have to admitt her little joke made me smile.

Now if only I were a mystery writer!

What has your child done to make you laugh lately?
