How many woman and children do you know that have been a victim of domestic violence and abuse?
Last night, I was given the privilege to hear Janine Latus speak a local fundraiser for the women’s shelter here in the area.
Janine’s story isn’t like most stories. Janine was the wife of an abusive husband, who knew she had to walk away in order for her and her daughter to have a better life. But for Janine’s sister Amy, it was not the case. Amy never got to walk away, instead she’d written a letter, wrote on the envelope, “If I’m Missing or Dead” and taped it in the inside of her desk drawer at her place of employment.
Janine’s memoir of these events have become a beacon of hope to those in domestic abuse situations. Her book, If I’m Missing or Dead, has been spreading across our town like wild-fire and many other places too.
It’s real, it’s riveting, and it’s happening in your town too.
The proceeds from last night’s fundraiser went to our local YWCA, and Wise Options – a women’s shelter.
If you haven’t read If I’m Missing or Dead, I’d highly recommended it. I know I’m going to read it.
